Frequently asked questions.
What inspired you to create The Sing Bible?
My story goes back 40 years. When I became a Christian I picked up a guitar almost immediately — our church only had an organist and contemporary Christian music felt like it was happening everywhere except where I was worshipping. Within a year or so a small group of us had formed a worship team and we were singing Shine Jesus Shine instead of hymns from the 1680s. It was the start of a lifelong journey with music and church.
I later felt called to join a church plant where I led worship from scratch — a handful of eager non-musicians, hard work, but we got there and the congregation grew. Eventually I moved to a larger church, stepped away from leading worship, and headed up the sound team. Over a dozen people on stage, gelled lights, a rocking sound — it was fantastic.
But the church had a serious leadership flaw, and after years of building something beautiful, it crumbled. It left me damaged. I drifted from God — in anger, probably — and stepped away from church for nearly 20 years. My relationship with Jesus never fully broke, but it was cracked and dry. I left music too, almost entirely — though I kept quietly experimenting with technology, always amazed by what was becoming possible.
Around three years ago I started exploring AI music tools and made a few memory verses from Scripture — fun, quirky little experiments. Then a thought struck me: what if someone put the whole Bible to music? The idea never left me, but for two years I sat on it, unsettled but not yet moving.
Eventually the calling became too loud to ignore. I started the project, produced the first few books, and made a soft launch at the end of 2025. In May 2026 I completed what is believed to be the world's first word-for-word sung New Testament available on major streaming platforms.
Is this really a world first?
We believe so — though we say "possibly" out of humility! As far as we can find, no one has ever set the complete New Testament to music word for word and made it available on major streaming platforms. If you know of another completed project like this, we'd genuinely love to hear about it!
Which version of the bible are you using and why?
We are using the World English Bible because it is a good version that offers a modern, easy-to-understand translation freely accessible to everyone, making it ideal for both personal study and public reading. In addition, it is designed specifically for use in the public domain, meaning it can be freely shared without copyright issues.
Are you using AI?
Absolutely — using leading technology as a tool in the creative process opens new possibilities when human expertise and AI capabilities are combined. Human artists bring intuition, lived experience, theological sensitivity, and the ability to interpret nuance: they know which passages need gentleness, which demand urgency, and how a phrase can carry multiple layers of meaning. AI contributes speed, pattern recognition, and the ability to explore many variations quickly, suggesting unexpected harmonies, textures, or arrangements that a single human mind might not test.
When producers, songwriters, and sound engineers pair their craft with AI tools, the workflow becomes more iterative and exploratory. AI can generate multiple draft ideas for melody, chord progression, or rhythmic feel based on the emotional intent assigned by the team. Engineers can then audition those ideas, modify them, and apply human judgment to preserve theological fidelity and artistic integrity. This accelerates decision-making without replacing the human responsibility to discern what truly serves the listener’s encounter with the text.
Every book, chapter, and passage benefits from this collaborative approach. Humans determine the interpretive frame—what aspect of the passage to emphasize, the pastoral tone, and the narrative arc—while AI helps realize and expand that vision through sonic possibility. Music is chosen intentionally to lift the words: instrumentation, tempo, spatial effects, and dynamic shaping are all tailored to create an immersive environment where the listener can hear familiar language in a fresh way.
This partnership also fosters experimentation that remains rooted in craft. For example, AI might propose a nontraditional harmonic color that underscores a surprising theological insight; the songwriter then tests lyrical phrasing against that color to ensure clarity and reverence. Sound engineers use AI-assisted tools to model acoustics or suggest mixing approaches that make voice and music blend in a way that enhances presence and intimacy. The result is a work that feels both contemporary and timeless—technologically assisted but spiritually guided.
Ultimately, the goal is to create expressive works that invite encounter and reflection. By treating AI as a collaborator rather than a replacement, creators honor their years of experience while accessing a wider palette of ideas. Careful consideration at every level—text selection, musical intention, and production choices—ensures the listener receives a thoughtful, immersive experience that illuminates the passage anew.
If I supported financially where would the money go?
At the moment, we are creating everything on a shoestring budget. So far, it has been a self-funded project, but this has caused significant limitations. Our vision greatly exceeds our finances, and the creation process is currently slower than we would like because we must work full-time jobs. (I recently took a six-month work break to complete the NT but will have to return to work due to lack of funds.) Additionally, audio and video production is time-consuming and expensive. As you watch the videos, you may notice some obvious quirks and strange elements—this is because we have had to use cheaper versions of available AI models due to limited funds. Any support you provide will be used 100% in the production process of completing the Bible.
Is every single word of the Bible really sung, with nothing left out?
Yes — every word, Nothing is paraphrased, skipped, or summarised. What you hear is the complete, unaltered text of the World English Bible, sung word for word. The one minor exception is an occasion sung repeat of a final line of a section to enhance the musical experience, but hopefully this is used in away which is obvious to the listener.
What style of music is it?
The music is original and varies throughout — it's intentionally scored to reflect what's happening in the text at any given moment. Quieter, more reflective passages are set to gentler music, while more dramatic or intense passages have a weightier, more powerful feel. We’ve used Folk, Jazz, Soul, Rock, Pop, Indie, R&B, and experimental soundscapes. The overall style is cinematic and family-friendly, suitable for all ages.
Can I use The Sing Bible in my church, small group, or classroom?
Absolutely — we'd love that! The Sing Bible is freely available to stream on all major platforms and is designed to be shared. Whether it's personal devotion, group study, or introducing children to Scripture in a fresh way, please feel free to use it.
How long did the New Testament take to complete?
The New Testament took around nine months in total. For the first three months I was balancing production alongside full-time work, which meant progress was slower than I'd have liked. I was then able to take a six-month break from work to focus entirely on completing it, which made an enormous difference.
Unfortunately, the project has generated very little financial support so far, which means I'll be returning to work . Production of the Old Testament will continue, but at a slower pace alongside my day job. If you'd like to help speed things up, even a small contribution through our giving page or Patreon goes directly into the production process — every bit genuinely helps.
